Looking Ahead with Hope

This month has been an exciting one for Blessman International. We recently drilled our 120th borehole, bringing the gift of clean, life-saving water to yet another community in South Africa. We were also awarded a contract to construct 10 new Enviro Loo waterless toilet systems at a Catholic girls' boarding school near Polokwane. These projects are transforming lives by improving both health and dignity for the children we serve.

While the ministry continues to move forward in Africa, Beth and I are finishing up our time in America. It has been a wonderful season of reconnecting with family, friends, and so many faithful supporters of Blessman International. Looking back over the past several months, this is shaping up to be one of the most successful years we have experienced in our 25 years of ministry.

One of the reasons this has become one of the most encouraging years in our ministry is because of the incredible generosity of God's people. Our annual Spring Gala was the most successful fundraising event in Blessman International's history. Then, in July, we hosted our very first golf fundraiser.

Although I have never played a round of golf in my life, our Executive Director, several staff members, and dedicated board members organized a wonderful event that introduced many new friends to the ministry. Every dollar raised will ultimately become clean water, nutritious meals, improved sanitation, and hope for children throughout South Africa.

One of the greatest blessings of our summer was spending quality time with our family. Our daughter, Kelsey, and our granddaughter, Juni, joined us for a memorable Colorado vacation. We traveled by Amtrak through the Rocky Mountains, explored Rocky Mountain National Park, and relaxed in the famous Glenwood Springs Hot Springs Pool.

Although Juni had recently broken her arm, the warm mineral water seemed wonderfully therapeutic. We had hoped to go whitewater rafting, but decided to save that adventure for another visit. At twelve years old, Juni has already decided she might like to attend college in Colorado someday!

Years ago, when I first entered ministry, asking people and churches to support our work financially was the part I enjoyed the least. Looking back now, I realize God had a much bigger purpose. Through those conversations He has blessed me with hundreds of wonderful friendships. Today, I no longer think of fundraising as asking for money. I see it as inviting people to become partners in changing lives for Christ.

As we prepare to return to South Africa in early September, our hearts are filled with anticipation. Dustin has been putting the finishing touches on remodeling our home, and we look forward to welcoming many visitors in the months ahead.

Our mission team calendar continues to grow. We currently expect to host at least ten mission teams during 2027. Dustin recently completed our 120th borehole, with many more projects already in the pipeline. We are also excited about constructing ten Enviro Loo toilet systems at a Catholic girls' boarding school near Polokwane with significant support from African partners.

Please continue praying that our two food containers from Meals from the Heartland and Convoy of Hope arrive safely and clear customs without delay. Thousands of children are eagerly waiting for those meals.
